Based on the serial blasts of suburban Mumbai trains on July 11, 2006, Mumbai Meri Jaan depicts the converging lives of an intrepid television anchor, an environmentally conscious corporate worker who prefers the public transport system, a religious fanatic, a street side coffee vendor, a rookie cop and an experienced cop on that fateful day. It tracks the impact of the crisis on these characters and was highly acclaimed. for its sensitive treatment of the human tragedy, superb camera work, and excellent acting by an ensemble cast, who bring out the best and the worst in human behavior.
Director Nishikant Kamat debuts in Bollywood with Mumbai Meri Jaan. He previously has directed regional films in Tamil and Marathi. He won many awards for his 2006 film Dombivili Fast. His other credits include script writing and acting.
