A Wednesday

NEERAJ PANDEY
India, 2008, 100 minutes, Color, 35mm

This counter-terrorism film initially takes the form of an action thriller; before its climax, its social message about the power of the everyman is given voice. The intelligently scripted plot revolves around the one-upmanship between an anonymous middle class man in Mumbai who warns the Commissioner of Police of six bombs that he will detonate unless four terrorists are freed; their cat-and-mouse game all unfolds between 2 and 6 p.m. on a Wednesday. Reviewers have wildly applauded the film’s unconventional and thrilling storytelling, steady momentum, great acting, and crisp editing, many calling it among the finest and bravest films of 2008.

Director Neeraj Pandey has made his first feature film with A Wednesday. He has previously made telefilms and has mainly worked on other stand-alone television programming.
